Catching St. Patty

I got inundated to this family tradition last year when Jaren's mom came down for Chase's birth. I love it...it's so cute. We decorate a box and set up a trap to catch St. Patty when he comes to our house that night. We make sure to leave some type of treat to entice him into the box. Then when he tries to eat it, he pulls on the string, which makes the stick fall down, thus trapping him. When the boys wake up in the morning, they "peek" while slowly lifting the box to make sure he can't get out before we see him. Unfortunately, we didn't catch him this year, but he left us chocolate coins, a mini chess set for J.J. (which he LOVES), a sticker and coloring book for Ryan and some bubbles for Chase, plus a lot of green dust and a note taunting us. We had lots of fun doing it for FHE on Monday night. Plus we went and got ice cream at the creamery...YUM!

I'm sorry you didn't catch that tricky old leprechaun this year .... though we've been trying to for the past 24 years and we have had no luck! You made an awesome trap. I miss being there with you and Jaren and your 3 incredible boys.
Love you all

Very nice looking trap. I love the art work drawn on the trap. I hope you catch him next year.

What a cute idea! They looked like they had a ton of fun too. Chase is so grown up...talk about one very fast year, huh?

So fun! That tricky ol' guy. We couldn't catch him either.

We usually entice him with saltines, cause we know he loves them. This year we added cheese puffs. He was just too darn fast for us. He usually leaves us some good Lindt chocolate but last year (when Grandma Ford was around) he left some little toys. Lily remembered that and before bed, prayed that we wouldn't catch Patty, but instead could he please please please leave little toys.

Unfortunately, he only left gum this year.

Hey, isn't that a leprechaun's foot in the bottom right hand corner of the first picture? He was right under your noses. Too bad!

What a fun idea! We barely made green cookies this year ... maybe next year I'll give that a whirl, 'cause I think the Boys would have a riot over that. Looks awesome.
